Muscovado sugar is unrefined cane sugar that contains natural molasses. It has a rich brown color, moist texture, and toffee-like taste. Muscovado sugar is healthier than a normal table sugar.
Muscovado is pure, unrefined, non-centrifugal cane sugar obtained from sugarcane juice by evaporation and draining-off of molasses. Muscovado retains all of the natural ingredients, mineral and vitamins present in sugarcane juice, making it nutritious. Because it is naturally processed, muscovado is devoid of bleaching agents and chemicals used to process and refine centrifugal sugar.
It is simply healthier. Muscovado is considered as premium product because the production is labor intensive and the health benefits it imparts, hence, commanding a higher price compared to conventional sugar.
